Peterborough Vs Letchworth

Theses team have been battling all season with each other at the top of the Eastern Counties League, Which Peterborough eventually won with sixteen wins from 16 games beating Letchworth on both occasions 3-2.

Both teams started the game cautiously neither keeper was really stretched in the first 15 minutes or so any shots that did get through were comfortably repelled by Quinn and Anthony in the nets.

 But it was Peterborough who opened the scoring, Peterborough moved the ball around on the halfway line and when the gap appeared James darted into the space and fine pass in the air found him in full flight which he controlled and span all in one motion before hitting the ball out of the air past the Letchworth goalkeeper.

Letchworth had to now come out and within minutes they drew level with a goal by Sasha Aitkin, all the hard work had been done by Mackenzie Allen who skillfully jinxed by his player and just as you thought he was going to shot he squired the ball to an open Sasha on the back post who slotted home.

Just as you thought it was going to be a draw at halftime Finley decided to go on a dribble himself and after beating a couple of Letchworth players, he calmly stroked the ball past Quinn in the Letchworth net to take Peterborough into the break leading 2-1.

The break seemed invigorate Letchworth more than Peterborough and within minuets Letchworh had not only drawn level but also taken the lead.

Sasha got his and Letchworth’ s Second his slapshot from his own half missed the goal completely but Charlie Sharp was more alert than any Peterborough player as he collected the ball of the back wall and his pass found Sasha on the back post for an easy goal to bring the scores level.

Sasha then got his hat-trick all three of his goals coming by being open on the back post and this time it was Mackenzie who done the hard work in the corner and sliding it to his open teammate on the back post to take Letchworth into the lead for the first time of the game.

Peterborough knew they would have to respond to get back into the game and within minutes they had their equaliser the team kept hold of the ball from the restart and move the ball around a clever pass across the rink from Harry found Finley with space to skate into and his shot beat the Letchworth goalkeeper to bring the game level again.

Yet again Peterborough switched off defensively Letchworth attacked straight from the restart Cycled the ball around the back of the net before Mackenzie slid a ball straight into the center of the Peterborough area for Sasha to get his and Letchworths forth as he was unmarked with no one within a meter of him.

Another long ball into the corner of the Peterbrough half was again won by a Letchworth player Lily-Rose then passed the ball back to the point and a what seemed harmless pass forward was cleverly chipped over the advancing Peterborough goalkeeper into the back of the net.

 Peterborough then tried their best to get back into the game and were given a lifeline with 1:06 left on the clock, another jinxing run through the middle by Finley Durston saw his shot find the back of the net to secure his hattrick and bring the game to one.

But Peterbrough couldn’t find an equaliser and Letchworth hung on for a deserved win.
